Recycling Storage Facilities

You will find recycling storage facilities within your kitchen. There are 3 recycling bins in addition to a normal waste bin incorporated into your kitchen units. These should be emptied in your recycling  / bin store area which will have been identified to you when moving in.

All waste that cannot be disposed of through the services offered by the Local Authority should be disposed of at a Household Recycling Centre. Your local Household Recycling Centre is situated at Mangotsfield.

At Mangotsfield 'Sort It!' centre you can recycle:

  • Asbestos - Maximum 6 sheets per project, double wrapped in sealed plastic
  • Car batteries and household (dry-cell) batteries
  • Cardboard
  • Fire Extinguishers - Household sizes only
  • Food and drinks cans
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Green garden waste
  • Hardcore (rubble) and soil
  • Large electrical equipment (i.e. cookers and washing machines)
  • Paper
  • Plasterboard - maximum 6 sheets or bags per project
  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Scrap metal
  • Small electrical equipment (i.e. kettles, irons, toasters)
  • Televisions and computer monitors
  • TetraPaks
  • Textiles and shoes (tied together in pairs)
  • Used engine oil - 1 Gallon (5 litres) per visit
  • Vehicle tyres - Maximum 4 per household per year
  • Wood (including MDF and chipboard)

Also new materials from 1st August 2011

  • Books
  • Bric-a-brac for reuse e.g. garden hand tools, furniture, crockery, bikes etc
  • Cooking Oil
  • DVDs & CDs
  • Ink cartridges
  • Mobile phones
  • Rigid or dense plastics e.g. plastic garden furniture, children’s toys, buckets etc

From the ring road exit (East) at the Siston Hill roundabout towards Siston and Mangotsfield turn left at the next set of lights marked for Staple Hill and Mangotsfield. The Sort It! centre is approximately 100 metres on the left.

WRAP is an organisation whose vision is that of a "world without waste, where resources are used sustainably". The WRAP Website can provide useful information, tips and guidance on how to reduce the amount of waste you produce.

Waste recycling bins are included within a kitchen base unit and further bins will be supplied by South Gloucestershire Council, which should be sited in the bin store appropriate to your home or in your garden.

Waste & Recycling

Your local authority provides a waste collection service. At the time of writing your collection day is Wednesday, however these days may change with bank holidays. Further details can be found on their website

 You will find 3 recycling storage facilities within your kitchen to aid in separating your recyclable materials. You can then transfer them into the dedicated communal waste bins in the communal bin store.

 As well as collecting general household waste, they also collect the following:


  • Food waste


  • Plastic Bottles
  • Paper
  • Tins, cans, aerosols and foil
  • Glass & Jars
  • Cardboard
  • Non-recyclable Waste

 The above mentioned items must be presented in your communal bin store ready for collection.
